Argon laser technology is used in ophthalmology to perform a type of treatment called photocoagulation.
Photocoagulation is a therapeutic technique based on the use of a strong light source with pre-determined wavelengths of tissue coagulation, whereby the target tissue absorbs light energy that is converted into thermal energy (for this this type of laser belongs to what is known as thermal laser).
It is used to treat diabetic retinopathy and some other retinal diseases such as rupture and perforations in the retina.
